How to set a temporary charger password remotely

This page informs how a Temporary charger password can be set from a back office.

PasswordTemporaryRemoteBack Office

Overview

The purpose of this function is to allow temporary access to the charging station.
This can be used for instance when an installer or service engineer needs to provide service to the station.

How to set up

We will use the ICU Connect back office as an example.
For other back offices the procedure should be similar.

  1. Important: Please make sure to properly store the new temporary password after setting it.
Requirements for a valid password: Minimum 10 characters, Capital letter, lower case letters and numbers (‘Alphanumeric’)

  2. For this instruction the ICU Connect back office is used as an example.
For other back office systems, the way of changing the configuration can be different. The back office configuration keys are the same.

  3. Search for the charging station in the back office and then go to the tab where the Configuration can be changed.

  4. Now search for the ‘PW-SetTempAccessKey’ configuration key.
If it is already present in the list, please go to the next step.

    Please note!
Because this is a ‘write only’ configuration key, it will not be readily available in most back office systems.
‘Write only’ means that the configuration item will not be visible after performing a ‘Get Configuration’ request.
Please create it by selecting ‘Add configuration item’.

Note that for other back office systems, this may require some additional work for the developers.
Make sure, it is possible to use a command that cannot be retrieved by a ‘get’ command.

  5. Now enter the configuration key (in the ‘Key’-field).
Then add a temporary password of your choice (in the ‘Value’-field).
    Then click on ‘Create’.

When using ICU Connect, don’t forget to press the ‘Send’-button

  6. Check the logging to see if the configuration change has been accepted.

If this is the case, the temporary password is now successfully set.
You can share it with someone who needs temporary access to the charging station (for example an installer or service engineer).

    Please Note!
In order to decide how long the temporary password Is available, the expiration time has to be set as well.
See the next step for an instruction how to do this.

  7. In order to set the temporary password expiration time, look for the ‘PW-TempAccessExpiration’ configuration key.
The temporary password expiration time is ‘0’ by default and therefore has to be set before logging in is possible.

  8. In the ‘Value’-field, enter the number of hours that the temporary password should be available before it expires.
The maximum is 72 hours, so you should choose a value between 0 and 72.

After entering the value, press ‘Update’.
The temporary password is now available for the number of hours you entered and can be used to log in.

  9. When locally logging in to the charging station with the temporary password, you have to change the User level into ‘Temporary’.
Then you can enter the temporary password and gain access to the charging station.
