Configuring Plug & Charge Authorization remotely via a Back Office

Overview

Plug & Charge authorization allows a charging station to start a transaction automatically when a vehicle is connected, eliminating the need for a charge pass. This guide explains how to configure Plug & Charge authorization remotely using a Back Office.

Configuration Steps

  1. Set the authorization mode

    • In the back office system, navigate to the authorization settings.
    • Set the ‘Authorization Mode’ to ‘Plug & Charge’.
  2. Create a Plug & Charge ID

    • Enter a new Plug & Charge ID (must be a hexadecimal value: 0-9, A-F).
    • The ID can be based on the charging station’s object number or a custom hexadecimal identifier.
  3. Validate the Plug & Charge ID in the Back Office

    • The Plug & Charge ID must be set as a valid ID in the back office.
    • If the ID is not validated, transactions will be rejected.
    • The validation process varies depending on the back office provider.

Important Notes

  • The Plug & Charge ID must be unique and formatted correctly (0-9, A-F).
  • For ICU Connect, refer to the back office-specific instructions on setting up Plug & Charge IDs.
  • If the ID is not valid, the charging station will not authorize transactions.
  • Due to updated interpretations of “identifiable transactions,” Alfen’s Plug & Charge feature (without authentication) is no longer available on Eichrecht-compliant products.
  • If you experience issues, contact your back office provider for support.
