How do I convert a charging station from Plug & Charge to RFID authorization?

Overview

This step-by-step guide will help you to change the configuration from Plug & Charge to RFID.

By using RFID authorization you can provide the ability to charging using a charging pass. this includes the information for a backoffice and standalone charging stations.

You can configure this in two ways:

On site using the ACE Service Installer.

Use the Service Installer Setup (for NG platform), which can be downloaded from alfen.com/downloads.
Under "How do I receive login details for the ACE Service Installer configuration tool?" you can find information on requesting an account.

First check if the charger is licensed to be used with RFID cards.

  1. In the ACE Service Installer go to the ‘General’ Tab and select 'License key on the menu on the left.

  2. Confirm that the status for 'RFID reader' is 'Unlocked'.
Without the proper license, the charger can not be converted to RFID Authorization and a license key for this feature needs to be purchased prior to make this change.
Please visit ’How do I order extra feature licenses for a charging station?' on how you obtain additional licenses for your charging station.

  3. Once the license has been added to the charger by our sales team, please visit ‘How can a feature license key be added to an Alfen charging station?’ For further guidance.

  4. When the needed license has been unlocked, go to the 'Authorization' tab in the ACE Service Installer.

  5. Select 'Authorization' in the menu on the left.

  6. You will see that Authorization Mode 'Plug & Charge' is selected and the Plug & Charge ID is filled in.

  7. Note this entered Plug & Charge ID for future use in case you ever want to revert back to Plug & Charge authorization.

  8. Now delete the entered 'Plug & Charge ID'.

  9. In the field 'Authorization mode' select 'RFID’.

  10. Press 'Save'.

Remotely via a back office.

Via the back office, you need to configure the following parameters:
Note that the operation may differ per backoffice used.

  1. Confirm that the RFID feature is available on the charger.

  2. Confirm that the status for ‘RFID Reader’ is ‘Unlocked’.

Please visit ’How do I order extra feature licenses for a charging station?' on how you obtain additional licenses for your charging station.

  3. Once the license has been added to the charger by our sales team, paste the new license key in the ‘FeatureLicenseKey’ field and save to the charging station.
