Introduction:
Firmware release 2.7.0 incorporates several general improvements, stability improvements, bug fixes and features. The main new features are:
  • Support for Solar charging

  • Support for OCPP2.0.1 Smart Charging

Solar Charging
This release introduces solar charging functionality to the Eve Single Plus.
Solar charging allows for charging based on locally available excess solar power, based on the measurement at the smart meter or grid point.
This functionality works with the currently supported smart meter interfaces (P1 serial and TIC) as well as external Modbus TCP/IP energy meters.
Two distinct modes are offered; Green mode and Comfort mode.

Comfort mode allows a vehicle to be charged at a minimum specified power level, the Comfort level, regardless of the amount of solar power produced.
This means that not only solar power will be used to power the vehicle. If the excess solar power exceeds the Comfort level, the charging power will be adjusted to compensate excess power.
It is advised to use this mode for more general purposes, where the vehicle needs to be charged sufficiently while also allowing for feed-in of energy to the grid to be minimized.

When using Green mode, charging will only be started if there is sufficient excess solar power to start charging.
Switching between single phase and three phase charging is enabled by default and is read-only, meaning that charging can start once there is at least 1,4kW (6A on single phase) of excess power measured.
The actual starting threshold might depend on the minimum charging current that the connected vehicle supports.
When the produced solar power exceeds this threshold, charging power will be matched to compensate for excess solar power produced.
This is advised if the primary goal is to purely charge on solar power, where it will depend on the actual solar power produced to what extent a vehicle will be charged.
By configuring the Green Share, the minimum share of excess solar power required to charge, lower than the default 100%, it is possible to lower the starting threshold by supplementing the excess solar power with grid power.
It is generally not advised to set a low Green Share value as this might cause continuous start/stop behavior potentially affecting the lifetime of the internal relays.

Configuration of the modes as well as the Comfort level and the Green Share are currently only configurable via OCPP or the ACE Service Installer.
Support for Eve Connect is expected in the upcoming major release.

OCPP2.0.1 Smart Charging
OCPP2.0.1 Smart Charging introduces significant improvements to smart charging via OCPP1.6J
It introduces enhanced transaction-specific charging profiles, native local load balancing, and enhanced charging profile stacking.

The following use cases are implemented in this release:

  • K01 – Set charging profile

  • K02 – Central Smart Charging

  • K04 – Internal load balancing

  • K05 – Remote start with charging profile

  • K06 – Offline behavior smart charging during transaction

  • K07 – Offline behavior smart charging at start of transaction

  • K08 – Composite schedule

  • K09 – Get profiles

  • K10 – Clear charging profiles

  • K11 – Get composite schedule

  • K12 – Notify charging limit

  • K13 – Cleared charging limit

  • K14 – External charging limit with local controller

  • K15 – Charging with load leveling based on high level communication

  • K16 – Renegotiation initiated by CSMS

  • K17 – Renegotiation initiated by EV

New Functionality

  • Added the possibility to authorize access to the enclosure by temporarily disabling tamper detection.
This can be authorized locally using ACE Service Installer or remotely by the back-office setting TamperAuthScheduledStartTime to determine the start time, whereafter access is allowed for 4 hours. Introduced Error 409 to be used in case of a tamper event.

  • Enabled the possibility to distinguish a RemoteStartTransaction initiated by either an ad-hoc payment or the app of an eMobility Service Provider (eMSP) on Eve Single Plus DE and Eve Double Plus DE using PaymentCardIdTagPrefix.
This determines whether ad-hoc pricing information will be included In the Eichrecht blob, which in turn allows for eMSP app authentication compliant to Eichrecht.

  • Implemented a notification to the back-office if an internal Surge Protection Device (SPD) reports an alarm. On OCPP 1.6, a StatusNotification will be sent only if InformationalStatusNotifications is set to True.
On OCPP 2.0.1, a NotifyEvent for SurgeProtectionDevice.Problem will be sent only if AlfenStation.InformationalNotifyEvents is set to True.
Component SurgeProtectionDevice is added with variables Available and Problem which can be used to obtain SPD availability and status.

  • Implemented messages and functionality of the OCPP1.6 Security Extension. This includes the following configuration items:

    • GetLog

    • ExtendedTriggerMessage

    • AdditionalRootCertificateCheck

    • AuthorizationKey

    • CertificateSignedMaxChainSize

    • CertificateStoreMaxLength

    • CpoName

    • SecurityProfile

  • Implemented the possibility to manage phase imbalance on station level in addition to managing on a socket level.

  • Added a configurable reboot timeout that defines the time whereafter a charging station will be rebooted while it is offline.
This is configurable remotely using ForceRebootAfterOfflineDuration (on OCPP1.6) or AlfenStation/ForceRebootAfterOfflineDuration (on OCPP2.0.1).

Bug fixes

  • Fixed an issue where a soft reset did not always trigger a BootNotification message

  • Fixed an issue where changing the StationMaxCurrent did not recalculate available current correctly during charging on a double socket charging station.

  • Fixed an issue where a charging station would abruptly stop sending HeartBeat messages to the back-office.

  • Fixed issues with several Modbus TCP/IP energy meters. It is no longer required to reboot the charging station for a change to a smart meter preset to take effect.

  • Fixed an issue where a firmware update could result in the charger going offline and not being accessible anymore due to a corrupted database.

Improvements

  • Updated the Smart Charging Network library to version 1.5 to allow for cross compatibility with NG9 firmware 7.4.x. The distribution of current in a Smart Charging Network during single phased charging is notably improved.

  • Cybersecurity improvements following IEC62443-4-2.

  • Added the possibility to set a fixed IP address without requiring a gateway address.

  • Added support for the question mark symbol (?) symbol in a dynamic QR code URL for ad hoc payment

SCN cross platform compatibility

Our Smart Charging Network (SCN) functionality is implemented as a shared library between our NG9 platform and AHP platform to enable cross compatible SCNs.

SCN versions are not backwards compatible; each charging station in the SCN needs to run firmware which contains the same SCN version.

Charging stations running AHP firmware 2.7.0 can only be combined in a single Smart Charging Network with charging stations running NG9xx firmware 7.4.x.

The ACE Service Installer will provide a warning if charging stations with different SCN library versions are used in one SCN.

Firmware update instructions

Please be aware that due to cybersecurity requirements, it is not possible to downgrade AHP firmware.
Additionally, an expiration date applies to the firmware file of the final release.
After the expiration date, the charging station will reject to update with this release and will require a newer release.

Known limitations

  • Changing the phase rotation of the charging station requires a reboot to be effective.

  • Adding a charging station to a Smart Charging Network requires a reboot of that device to be effective.

  • An error associated with a trip of the Residual Current Device on an Eve Double Plus DE will get incorrectly cleared when the transaction is ended. The socket is incorrectly shown as being available, until a charging session is started, which will trigger the error state again.

  • The buzzer may sound multiple times with a delay when presenting an invalid RFID card on Twin 5 Plus and Eve Double Plus charging stations.

  • In the case that the back-office does not support the signing of V2G certificates, the charger will send an error to the back-office that the certificate signing is rejected. This can be resolved by disabling the V2G certificate request using ISO15118Ctrlr/V2GCertificateInstallationEnabled.
