Charging stations running firmware 7.4.0–7.4.5 fail to accept remote firmware updates

via a secured OCPP connection, returning an "Invalid Certificate" error.

The appropriate workaround depends on the station's previous firmware version.

Remote Update Possible?

Recommended Action

Previously ran firmware < 7.4.0

✅Yes

Roll back via OCPP key: ForceFirmwareRollBack, then Update to 7.4.6
or
On-site update via ACE Service Installer or Apps to 7.4.6

Never ran firmware <7.4.0

❌No

On-site update via ACE Service Installer or Apps to 7.4.6

Choose the situation that applies to you:

If the station had firmware below 7.4.0

If the station had firmware below 7.4.0 a remote rollback is possible via OCPP ChangeConfiguration.
Send the following command from your back office:

"ChangeConfiguration", {"key": "ForceFirmwareRollback", "value": "<buildnumber>"}
Replace <buildnumber> with the build number of the currently installed firmware. The build number is the numeric suffix after the version string.

Example: If the installed version is 7.4.4-4413, the build number is 4413.
"ChangeConfiguration", {"key": "ForceFirmwareRollback", "value": "4413"}" has to be send

Once the rollback completes, the station can be updated to firmware 7.4.6 (the hotfix) or higher, through the normal back-office update flow.

Of course, when on location, you can update the firmware locally to version 7.4.6 or higher as well on these chargers.

If the charger was produced with firmware version 7.4.0 - 7.4.5

If the station is already running 7.4.x as its original/manufactured firmware the remote rollback method is not applicable.
In this case, an on-site update is required; a person with local access to the station (such as the site owner or installer) should connect directly on location to apply the firmware update.

The hotfix release 7.4.6 resolves this issue permanently once applied.
